Please take the time to read this before you reseal and make a mistake
that could ruin your Stamped Concrete or create a problem that is costly to correct.
Whether you are a do it yourself kind of person or are one that hires
someone to do this for you please BEWARE.
1. Resealing does not need to be done every year and if done
too many times will create problems. Blushing-Whitening. This is due to the inability of the sealer
to breath. Although you would think that sealer seals it does not. It needs to breath to allow
water to pass through from below as ground water rises through the concrete and if blocked by too
many layers of sealer gets trapped and causes a whitening condition.
2. Improper application either by
rolling or spraying. We have found that using multiple thin coats of sealer is most effective in
resealing and helps prevent blushing. To heavy and again water gets trapped.
3. Improper sealer that is not
compatible with what you initially had installed. The biggest mistakes are using Water Based Sealer
over Resin Based Sealer, using Styronated Acrylic when a Pure Acrylic was initially used,
taking the advice of someone in Lowe’s or Home Depot that Thompson’s is good or some other sealer
that they sell will work. TRUST ME they might know about other Home Products but there
knowledge in the area of Concrete Sealers is limited at best. Put one of the sealers they recommend
on your Stamped Concrete and if you are lucky it will wear off quickly so you can apply the correct
sealer.
If in doubt please call that we might help you whatever part of the
Country that you are from to direct you to the proper people to get you the sealer or the
applicator that you need.
MOST OF ALL DO NOT OVER-SEAL. A GOOD PURE RESIN BASED SEALER THAT WE USE SHOULD LAST AT MINIMUM 3
YEARS. WE HAVE SEEN OUR SEALER LAST UP TO 5 YEARS IF KEPT CLEAN AND FREE FROM ABRASIVE
MATERIAL.
Make the call. We are here to assist you. Oh Yes! What’s the catch that we would help you choose
the right way to re-seal? SIMPLE: If your Re-seal is done right and your Stamped Concrete job looks
great it makes it better for all those of us who depend on a good job selling the next job.
